While living in South Beach, this is one artist that reeled me into ritual walkings to the Art Center of South Florida. Vickie Peirre creates organically flowing prints as simply as possible. Seemingly repetetive, all shapes are derived from drips, bubbles, shells, and folds. But when placed within mood shifting color palettes, the abstract composition gains a sense of style that only Vickie can create. Although her designs look great as thumbnails, imagine one of these prints encompassing an entire room. Tedious, and time taking, it sometimes seems that she's searching for a space large enough to scoff,"Forget it".
To learn about Vicki via the Art Center of South Florida copy and paste http://www.artcentersf.org/artists/resident/810/pierre_v/index.htm into your browser. But next time you're in Miami Beach, taking a stroll down Lincoln Road, stop into the Art Center and see the many images that get lost through photography. And if you're a Dade county local, take advantage of the situation and see amazing art for free until 11:00 PM daily. The Art Center also offers a wide array of classes- from silkscreen printing to life drawing, the instructors are the resident artists and the curriculum combined with the price is unbeatable.
